Granulation
- characteristically very vascular, contains many vessels

- upper segment may have decidualized stroma caused by progesterone, pregnancy, etc.
- lower segment mostly proliferative, no decidualized stroma
From ovum radiate villi and only portion becomes placenta and rest turns degenerative.
Salivary gland contains
- mucinous gland
- serous gland
- if lots of lymphoid follicles, then Sjogren's syndrome.

Sjogren's syndrome
- characterized by dry eyes(keratoconjunctivitis sicca) and dry mouth (xerostomia) resulting from immunologically mediated destruction of the lacrminal and salivary glands.
- periductal and perivascular lymphocytic infiltration
- as lymphocytic infiltrate extensive, lymphoid follicles with germinal centers may be seen in the salivary gland.
- ductal epithelial hyperplasia -> duct obstruction -> fibrosis, replacement with fat
- 90 % are women
