Pathology wk 33-36: Choriostoma, granulation, Max-Joseph space

Hamartoma vs. Choriostoma
A choriostoma is an ectopically placed non-neoplastic mass of normal tissue.
= Hamartoma + exogenous components

Lemma - covering
e.g. neurolemma = schwannoma

Look at nucleus to determine malignancy
Look at cytoplasm to determine type of malignancy

Ulcerative colitis - mucosa, submucosa to muscularis
Crohn's - submucosa and below to serosa

Granulation is a collection of histiocytes
Many capillaries -> granules in gross appearance

In kidney, proximal tubule has many small projections in lumen
distal tubule has compact apical lumen with no projection

In transitional cell carcinoma, goblet cells present

Max-Joseph space
Degeneration of basal keratinocytes and disruption of the epithelial basement membrane and basal keratinocyte anchoring elements in OLP produce weaknesses at the epithelial-connective tissue interface which may result in histological cleft formation (Max-Joseph space)
